I am from rock bottom.
From a broken heart, and a broken dream.
Yet I am from faith, because that’s all she’s ever had in me.
From Bedtime Stories, to monsters under my bed,
She protected me.

I am from promises,
For a life she never had.
From love, resilience and strength,
All qualities she instilled in me.
I’m from flowers planted in the Spring
From Life and laughter,
That she poured into me.

I’m from big sister gifts, and sissy this, sissy that
From yes ma’am , no ma’am , say “yes” not “yea”
I’m from summer days spent outside,
From Klassic Kids and Hage Elementary
All places with childhood memories.

I’m from Judy Blume Books,
From dreaded times tables, and history homework
Only because she made me.

I’m from soccer fields
From teamwork
From blood, sweat, and tears
She cheered for me.

I’m from High school Football Games
From broken hearts and hurtful words
From best friends and gossiping
She directed me.

I’m from scholarships
From hard work and perseverance
I’m from talent, ambition, and brains
Because she believed in me.

I’m from long distance phone calls
From care packages full of loving thoughts
From success and victories
Because everything she promised, she gave to me.

I’m from my mothers being, through and through
From her broken heart and crumpled dreams
To a family.

I am from trials and tribulations
From triumphs and hard work
I am my mothers daughter
Because she put me first.
